Right before Christmas I sort of drifted into making toys. A friend sent me a link to a little crochet monster and asked if I could make it for her. I loved it. It was challenging with the oogy hand, but it was also good therapy for it. Then I showed it off to my knitting group and it was off and running... I am STILL making them... heh.It is a free pattern and she does a great video for the step by step.

After that, I decided to make a dragon for a friend.
I picked a thin scrap yarn and started on the prototype. I got the body finished with the legs and arms done, but not attached. I set it on the couch, left the room to get a different yarn for the wings and when I got back, the body was missing. I looked everywhere, only to find that my sisters kitten had stolen it and was mauling it. He liked it so much I let him keep it and started another body.
This time, when the body was finished, I was heading out to go to my knitting group so I tossed it into my purse. When I got home, I was standing talking to my neighbor. He had liften his dog up onto the tailgate of his truck. I noticed all of the sudden that the dog had his head buried in my purse only to have him jerk his head away and run over to his 'dad'. Sure enough, he had the dragon body in his mouth and there was no way he was giving it back... heh. Moral of the story is that if you are looking for the perfect animal toy, the body of this dragon is perfect. The kitten especially likes to hold onto the neck and rabbit-kick the fat part.
Sooooo... needless to say, I guarded body number three with my life (and very sharp knitting needles). I was finally able to get it finished and it really turned out cute. I have a 2 year old neighbor who gets all the prototypes, but once I took the finished one to 'show and tell', I was (again), off and running... lets just say that there were a 'few' in peoples stockings this year... heh.
For awhile things were very productive around my house:
In the middle of all of these, someone gave me a pattern for a reindeer... it looked so cute. To bad it turned out to be an evil mutant pattern. In the end though, it did come out cute.

I had sent a picture of the parts to my boss/friend and she wants just the head for her wall... heh.
